GREEN CAMPUS INITIATIVES

CLEAN CAMPUS

SRM TRP Engineering College integrates eco-friendly practices and education to promote sustainability. Students, faculty, and staff all contribute, with Swachh Bharat programs educating students on cleanliness and their role in maintaining a clean campus. The institution also ensures cleanliness both inside the college blocks and outside the campus.

Waste Collection, Segregation and Processing

SRM TRP Engineering College addresses the environmental threat of non-degradable waste by implementing a strict waste segregation policy. This waste is sent to recycling facilities, promoting a circular economy. Regular road cleaning ensures a dust-free environment, enhancing campus cleanliness and sustainability.

BAN ON SINGLE USE PLASTICS

SRMTRP Engineering College has banned the use of single-use plastic covers and plastic water bottles on campus. To promote this initiative, we conducted awareness programs through NSS for both students and staff. We encourage the use of cloth bags instead of polythene covers and advocate for reusable water bottles over single-use plastic ones.

GREEN COVER AND LANDSCAPING

SRM TRP Engineering College’s green campus program supports a sustainable, climate-friendly environment through sustainable energy, energy-efficient measures, recycling, composting, and green landscaping. A smart irrigation system, using sensors and weather data, optimizes watering schedules to conserve water and promote healthy campus greenery. With around 425 trees, the campus exemplifies environmental stewardship and sustainability.

USE OF SOLAR ENERGY AND USE OF LED BULBS

SRM TRP Engineering College has evolved a time-bound plan to save energy at the institutional level to install Solar Power Station mandatorily on top of the college building. This enables the institute to utilize the power supply. CFL and LED bulbs are being used as power-efficient electrical devices.  These steps not only save money but also make the institute self- sustainable. The Street light is used on this renewable energy in the campus. The use of renewable energy reduces energy consumption in the following parameters.

RESTRICTED VEHICLE ENTRY AND USE OF E-VEHICLE WITHIN CAMPUS

Students’ vehicles are not allowed on campus and must be parked at the entry parking stand, supervised by a guard to ensure no vehicles cross into the college. This policy promotes a pollution-free, eco-friendly campus and is a mandatory security measure. Hostel students are encouraged to use E-vehicles for attending classes.

PROCESSING OF FOOD WASTE AND BIO-GAS GENERATION

Our institution has constructed its own Bio-Gas plant in the campus. The fuel, generated using the Night Soil collected from the Hostel and the vegetable waste from the canteen and energy, equivalent to 58 kgs of LPG is saved every month. This adds up to 696 LPG gas per year. The gas generated is used for cooking purposes in Hostel and it also helps to recycle the waste to control methane pollution.

RAIN WATER HARVESTING

SRM TRP Engineering College have implemented a comprehensive rainwater harvesting system across our campus. This system involves strategically placed collection points, such as rooftops and designated catchment areas, where rainwater is harvested and stored for future use. This not only reduces our dependency on external water sources but also harnesses a natural and sustainable water supply.

WATER MONITORING AND WASTEWATER TREATMENT

SRM TRP Engineering College boasts state-of-the-art facilities designed to maximize water conservation efforts. The plant reverse osmosis (RO) plant and UV treatment, ensure that water quality meets the highest standards for various applications within the institution. Additionally, our campus has sewage treatment plants for the treatment of wastewater generated from the institution and hostels. This treated water is reused for flushing requirements provided with a two-pipe system.

PEDESTRIAN FRIENDLY PATHWAYS

As student’s vehicles are not allowed in college campus, to walk from the entrance of college to main college gate, a systematic friendly pathway is constructed throughout the way. Students and staff experience comfort walking through the pedestrian friendly pathway.
